Frequently Asked Questions

What version of the Bible will we be using?

The New International Version (NIV) will be used for all readings.

Do I bring my own Bible?

You may bring your own NIV Bible (please have the page and section of text clearly marked), or you may print a copy of your portion of text from www.biblegateway.com. Please place all printed pages into a binder or secure folder. If you are unable to bring your own copy of the scripture passage, you may request a copy of your text from the church office (Stacy Murr, Outreach Secretary, 796-6868 ext. 14) no later than Monday, November 12, 2007.

What if I forget my Bible?

There will be a loose-leaf NIV Bible available in the new Worship Center if needed.

What if I forget which time slot I have chosen?

A confirmation email will be automatically sent to you when you register online. Inquiries may be made via e-mail or telephone to the church office. If you provide your email address upon signing up, a reminder email with the time slot and scripture reference will be sent to you before the event.

Should I practice reading my scripture passages?

Absolutely. Practice reading your portion of scripture several times at a slow to normal reading pace. Be sure to speak clearly. Write out names of people or places that are hard to pronounce. Help for pronouncing difficult words may be found in a Bible dictionary, concordance or at www.biblegateway.com. Also, pray for this event and your participation in it. Above all, be relaxed!

What are the dates and times of this event?

Filling God's House with God's Word will begin on Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. and will proceed continuously (24 hours a day) through Sunday, December 2, 2007, at 9:40 a.m., where we will conclude the readings. We will then take a short break and celebrate our first worship service at 10:30 a.m. in the new worship center.

Where will the reading take place?

All readings will be offered at the pulpit in the new worship center.

Where do I park?

You may park on the north side of the building closest to Courtyard Road, or in the back parking lot.

Which door do I enter from the parking lot?

During business hours (M-F, 9am – 5pm), it may be easiest to enter the building from the back parking lot next to the new office area (please see map). After hours and on the weekend, the only entrance that will be unlocked will be the entrance by the NEW prayer room on the north side of the building closest to Courtyard Road. Please try to park as close as possible to this entrance after dark for safety purposes.

How do I enter the worship center before my reading?

There will be one clearly marked entrance door to the worship center off of the new gathering area near the offices available for readers to enter and exit. Please enter silently and remain silent throughout the readings. There will be a reserved area for all readers to sit inside the worship center prior to their assigned time.

When should I arrive?

Please be sure to arrive AT LEAST 20 MINUTES before your scheduled reading time.

Will there be anyone else in the worship center while the readings are taking place?

Yes. There will be an hourly leader in the sanctuary assigned to assist with any last minute questions or concerns. Also, there should be at least two people waiting to read in the assigned time slots after you. There may also be additional people in the sanctuary who are enjoying the reading in person. After hours, there will be at least one other person available to help provide security.

How much time do I have to read my selected scripture?

You have been allowed 10 minutes for your assigned section of scripture. This will be plenty of time to complete your reading without hurrying. Don't be concerned about making mistakes, just work through them.

May I give a devotion or testimony or offer a prayer during my reading time?

No. Please refrain from offering any additional explanation or talking. For consistency, please read only your passage, including book titles and chapter breaks. (For example, if you are starting a new book, say "Genesis, Chapter 1". If you are in the middle of a book and are beginning Chapter 15, simply say, "Chapter 15" as you move from one chapter to the next.)

May my children read a section of scripture?

You know the capabilities of your children. If they would like to read a certain verse or portion of verses, we ask that they practice as outlined above and that you assist them. Ten minutes is a long time for a child to read, so you may want to share a time slot with your child.

What should I bring with me?

Please be sure to bring an NIV copy of your scripture text that is well marked and easy to read. Also, you may bring room temperature water (there will be some available at the refreshment table if you choose not to bring your own). Remember to bring reading glasses, if necessary! Otherwise, all you need to bring is a prayerful heart and a big smile!

How should I dress for this event?

Please dress comfortably in clothing that does not distract you or the listener from the sanctity of God’s Word.

What should I do when I'm done with my reading?

Please gather all items that you brought with you when you are finished. You may sit in the worship center and listen to those that are reading texts after you. You may also exit silently. After leaving the sanctuary, you may enjoy refreshments or you may proceed to the prayer room to offer prayers for those reading and those listening to God’s word. Feel free to stop and sign the commemorative Bible at the Information Table. After your reading, you may also stay to provide extra security in the building.

Will childcare be offered during this event?

No. Please arrange for the care of your children during this event. Out of respect for your fellow readers, we ask that children that are not reading scripture not be brought into the worship center while the readings are taking place.

What if I sign up for a time slot and I need to cancel or reschedule?

Please make your best effort to keep your appointed reading time. Prior to your appointed reading day, if you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact Stacy Murr, Outreach Secretary, at 796-6868 ext. 14 or via e-mail at stacy@ironbridge.org, or you may fill out the cancel or reschedule form online. Please make arrangements as soon as you know you are unable to make your appointed time.

If you find that you are unable to make your appointed time ON THE DAY OF YOUR READING, please contact your hourly leader so they may be able to help fill your slot.

Who is the hourly leader for my time slot?

You may request the name and contact information of your hourly leader from the church office or via the website. Your hourly leader will be in contact with you the day before you are scheduled to read as a reminder.

Will there be bottled water or refreshments available?

Yes.

Are friends and family outside of IBC membership allowed to participate?

We encourage everyone to check in with our webcam which is accessible through www.ironbridge.org or to quietly observe in person in our new worship center.
