January 2022 BridgeBlast
From Pastor Gary:
Good words always, but it is a fantastic way to start the new year. This is new series helps us focus on “staying strong in Jesus.” It is our privilege as believers, and the Lord has given us resources to do this very thing. Also, as we look to the year 2022 with the excitement of great things to come, we want to experience those things as believers so we can grow from and through them. As a church we are in process of seeking God’s leadership for a new Lead Pastor, and we want to stay strong in Jesus on this journey for the sake of all the blessings that lie ahead. We live in a challenging world, if you haven’t noticed, and it is essential to stay in the position of strength that is a life in Jesus. We are new creations in Christ, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, following God’s Word, and in fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. That is our position of strength, and our enemy doesn’t want us to stay located there. But by God’s help, each other’s encouragement, and a strong daily walk we will STAY STRONG.
I am so thankful for our strong ending to calendar year 2021 as a church. We were so blessed by the outreach and events that we were a part of in December. Strong worship times, deep reflection on our walk in Christ, touching others with Christ’s love in a meaningful way, and strong participation. We also ended the year well in our tithes and offerings through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions, and through strong giving to the Lord through our church ministry. Let’s thank the Lord for the resources available to give, and for the willingness and faith to put it into action. Thank you and Praise the Lord.
CLAIMING 2022 FOR THE LORD
In the Old Testament the children of Israel claimed God’s blessings of the Promised Land by walking through it in faith. Together, we have the opportunity, with the Lord’s help, of claiming this year 2022 for Him. We do it by faith; by a strong daily walk in Jesus; by sharing a verbal witness for Christ; and by
inviting our friends, family, neighbors, and the people we meet through “divine appointments” each day to join us as we gather and serve. Thanks for all you do. 2022 is going to be a wonderful year to serve Jesus together as Ironbridge Church. Pastor Gary.
From Pastor Paul:
Happy New Year for 2022 to all of Ironbridge Church! We are in exciting days as we continue to look to the future and seek God’s guidance for this body of believers. Let me encourage you here and now to continue, or even to start, in finding ways to grow and serve. These are both crucial in building the body. Could you imagine an athlete who didn’t seek to learn ways to build up? What if this athlete didn’t follow through and exercise what was learned? The body of Christ can certainly be that way with all believers who call this their home. I don’t often do this, but I would love for you to hear the words of this great hymn:
TEACH ME, O LORD, I PRAY
Teach me, O Lord, I pray, Thy precious truth divine;
Lead me to understand thy Word And make its precepts mine.
Impart thy wisdom, Lord, Shed light upon my way,
That I may know thy boundless love; Teach me, O Lord, I pray.
Train me, O Lord, I pray, In knowledge and in skill;
O daily let me walk with thee And do thy perfect will.
Train thou my heart and mind To serve thee unashamed,
At home, abroad, where’er the Christ Has yet to be proclaimed.
Use me, O Lord, I pray, To shed thy light sublime
To rich and poor, to high and low Of ev’ry race and clime.
O may thy flaming zeal Burn constantly in me,
Till souls in darkness ev’rywhere Fall down and worship thee.
Let’s use 2022 as a year to grow and serve. What if every member sought to do that? This church would grow in health and strength and become an even brighter light in this community. Last September, Bridge Group leaders came together for a time of fellowship around a meal, and a time of training which turned out to be a great encouragement for all. I am looking forward to another time together with Bridge Group Leaders in February. I feel that a Sunday
Luncheon and Meeting work well. Keep your eye out for that date. I will message leaders directly as soon as it is set.
We had an amazing time back in November with our first Worship Night at Ironbridge. So many great things came out of that time together. We had great seasons of worship within our extended time of music. There was a great openness in sharing about the Lord and His leading in our lives. Amazing community was experienced on the stage as well as in the congregation. We wanted to make prayer for the future of Ironbridge one of the key experiences for the evening and we certainly felt the presence of the Lord in that time. Prayers were centered around our relationship with the Lord and making that right, as well as prayers for the future of Ironbridge, and our search for a Lead Pastor. I believe a stronger commitment to the Lord was felt as we prayed and as the body experienced fellowship together. There are so many great things to rejoice over from that time. I am really looking forward to another night like this in February. My desire is for this to be well attended. This is different from Sunday morning worship in that we can take our time and really experience His presence in singing. Keep an eye out for the date and join us!
From Pastor Zach:
Happy New Year!
Our God, at his core, has a heart of tender mercy. He loves to make things new. In fact, all of creation is steadily moving forward to the day when he’ll make “all things new.”
Because our God is a creator, we as a ministry are stepping into a few new rhythms this first month of the new year.
The Young Adults Ministry is multiplying! We will now have two options for gathering times: Monday’s or Thursday’s at 7pm. Once a month, our two small groups will gather as a large group for a variety of events. Our new book study is the gospel of John. We invite you to read along and join for a gathering.
Join us for our new sermon series, Confidence. Through our study of the book of 1 John you will learn to have confidence in Christ. Join us for a game night at 6:30pm on 1/26! The night will include different options for board games and an ongoing video game tournament. Leverage teams are back on Sunday, 1/30! These teams equip students to leverage their life for the cause of Christ. For a deeper look into our new year rhythms, we invite you to explore our calendar.
Pastor of Students and Young Adults
From BridgeKidz Director Tammy:
Welcome to 2022! As we enter this new year in BridgeKidz, we are grateful first, for our Volunteer Servant Leaders. Each of them has faithfully served over these 18 months since returning to regular in- person services! They use the gifts God has given them to partner with parents in leading children to experience life with God by connecting with God through PRAYER; growing in wisdom through. HEARING the Word of God; LIVING a life that honors God through worship; serving in ministry, and TALKing with others about their faith. These beloved leaders have the privilege of building relationships with young families as they minster to the children each week. Children’s Ministry would not exist without them! I want to invite you to join us in mentoring the next generations into disciples “…. teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…” (Matthew 28:19-20) We have an exciting opportunity to impact families for Christ every Sunday morning during BridgeKidz service at 9:00am. BridgeKidz Ministry is hosting an information session on Sunday, January 30th right after second service (12:15pm) in Room 200 for anyone interested in learning more about how you can be a part of impacting families for Christ.
Pre-K – 1st Grade
Theme: Story Time
A great storyteller can pull you in and make you forget everything else that is going on around you. They make you feel empathy and conviction for things that really matter. Life lessons are revealed with each word, and you walk away wanting to change and just be a better human. Jesus is THAT kind of storyteller. Jesus is indeed the master storyteller and there is nothing better than Story Time with Him. When Jesus starts talking, it’s time to listen. Because, Jesus teaches me important things.
Memory Verse: “The crowds were amazed at his teaching.” Matthew 7:38
Key Question: Who teaches you important things? Jesus teaches me important things.
2nd -3rd Grade:
Theme: Remote Control: The Choice is Yours
We trust God no matter what. Even when we face unexpected circumstances, we can respond to them with self-control. We can trust that we don’t need to rush in or take matters into our own hands. We can trust that God is working.
Memory Verse: “God’s power has given us everything we need to lead a Godly life.” 2Peter 1:3a
Life Application: Self-Control: Choosing to do what you should even when you don’t want to. Self-control is a Fruit of the Spirit. As we follow Jesus throughout our lives, the Holy Spirit transforms us and helps us live more like Jesus. We can follow His example and choose to do what we should do—instead of what we want to do. The Holy Spirit can give us the power and wisdom to show self-control.
Theme: Footsteps of the Disciples
The students have been walking in the footsteps of the disciples all through 2021. As we begin 2022, Mrs. Shirley continues to lead these young hearts and minds in discovering truth that is in God’s Word and how they can begin to apply it to their lives today.
